Dates: April 22 to May 27 Day: Wednesday evenings Time: 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. Duraton: 6 weeks Instructor: Kristen Hodges Perfect for beginners and those with some clay experience. Students have over 35 hours of open studio access to practice and build skills outside of class. Each class will focus on mastering a new skill and aspect of handbuilding, followed by practice time with instructor supervision. Students will keep any finished pieces created in the class. Course Outline: Class 1: Intro to pottery and handbuilding: exploring pinch pots as a method for creating form and understanding the relationship between hand, pressure, and clay. Includes studio tour and orientation. Class 2: Introducing slab construction and using molds as a way to translate flat planes into forms. Class 3: Expanding slab techniques into more complex and intentional forms using cutting and assembling methods. Class 4: Combining skills to create handles, simple sculptural elements, and other attachments that enhance and personalize pieces. Class 5: Investigating surface decoration as a means of exploring texture, pattern, and ceramic painting. Class 6: Working with glazes and understanding color and finish as the final layer to complete pieces. A 25lb bag of clay is included in the class. ----- Sliding scale and need-based scholarships are available. Cancellation policy: Cancellations and refund requests must be made by email to salidaceramics@gmail.com. Requests made more than ten days before the first class will be refunded in full. Requests within ten days of the first class will be refunded at 50%. Once the class begins, no refunds are available. Orders over $100 will incur a $20 processing fee for cancellations. If a class or workshop does not fill, the studio reserves the right to cancel it one week before the start date. Members receive 20% off of classes and workshops.
